According to early box office figures from Hollywood.com, 'Avatar' (Fox) took in $36 million over the weekend to push its domestic gross to $552,797,418. It is currently in second place on the all-time domestic gross list, behind 'Titanic,' which has taken in $600.8 million domestically.
'Avatar' is even closer to passing 'Titanic' in world-wide box office grosses. As of this weekend, it has earned $1.841 billion world-wide, just behind 'Titanic's' $1.843 billion world-wide total. That means 'Avatar' will almost certainly pass 'Titanic' this week.
